Equipment

  • Ice cream maker
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Freezer-safe container with lid
  • Plastic wrap

Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream and whole milk until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk the granulated sugar and a pinch of salt until evenly mixed.
  • Gradually add the sugar mixture to the cream mixture, stirring constantly to dissolve the sugar. Add the pure vanilla extract and stir again.
  • Pour the ice cream base into your ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions (usually 20-25 minutes).
  • Once the ice cream reaches a soft-serve consistency, transfer it to a freezer-safe container.
  • Cover the ice cream with plastic wrap, ensuring it touches the surface to prevent ice crystals from forming.
  • Place the lid on the container and freeze for at least 4-6 hours or until the ice cream firms up.
  • Serve your homemade ice cream in bowls or cones, garnishing with your favourite toppings.

Notes

  • For a richer ice cream, use higher fat content in your dairy ingredients.
  • Experiment with flavours by adding mix-ins like chocolate chips, crushed cookies, or fresh fruit during the last few minutes of churning.
  • Soften the ice cream for a few minutes at room temperature before serving for the creamiest texture.
